Vatican’s sensitivity towards Gaza sparks controversy: Israeli Foreign Minister reacts.

Israel’s Foreign Minister, Eli Cohen, voiced his strong objections to the Vatican’s failure to issue a resolute and unambiguous condemnation of Hamas’ ruthless actions resulting in the murder of over 1,300 Israelis in a surprise assault last Saturday.

Quoting the Times of Israel as referenced by Fox News, Cohen communicated to Holy See Secretary Paul Gallagher that the Israeli population anticipated a distinct and unequivocal denouncement from the Vatican regarding “this dreadful act of terrorism.”

Foreign Minister Cohen asserted, as relayed by the Israeli Foreign Ministry, that it is deemed unacceptable for the Vatican to merely express concern for the well-being of Gaza civilians, particularly in light of Israel grieving the loss of 1,300 individuals who tragically lost their lives.

India Today also reported that the strong statement was made by the Pope in response to his speech at the Vatican on Sunday. In his speech, Pope Francis advocated for the respect of humanitarian rights, particularly in Gaza, and emphasized the urgent need for humanitarian corridors and the release of hostages.

The Pope’s statement was prompted by Israel’s bombardment of the Gaza Strip, which has led to the displacement of over 400,000 Palestinians in the region within the last seven days. Additionally, Pope Francis called for the establishment of a humanitarian corridor to assist those trapped in Gaza and urged efforts to secure the freedom of civilians held captive by Hamas.
