According to the folks in charge, the students from the school would be transferred to a government school or some other school that’s close by.
In the meantime, the teacher, Tripta Tyagi, had a chat with the folks at NDTV news. She said she doesn’t feel a bit sorry for what she’s done.
The kid’s family mentioned that he got a roughing up ’cause he made a mistake in his multiplication tables.
Folks on social media went wild over the weekend sharing a video of Ms. Tyagi. In the clip, she’s seen instructing her students to slap their Muslim classmate who’s just seven years old. This happened at a small, private school out in Muzaffarnagar district.
According to a BBC correspondent, the dad of the boy involved reported the situation to law officials and yanked his kid from the school. However, he decided not to take any legal action.
The video went viral and ticked off a bunch of folks on social media. Many users felt some sort of punishment should hit the teacher.
The cops have slapped a case against the lady in question, Ms Tyagi, but haven’t made an arrest yet. If she did get charged, it seems like she could bail herself out easily.
In a chat last Sunday, education honcho Shubham Shukla told us they’re digging deeper into what went down.
An insider, who preferred to stay anonymous, shared a snippet with the Indian Express. The school lacked basic facilities like lighting or fans, and apparently they didn’t even have separate areas for each grade.
So far, Ms Tyagi has kept mum about the school being shut down.
Speaking to NDTV News, she justified her actions, claiming they were needed to “control” and “handle” kids at school.
This incident has caused quite a stir nationwide. A number of opposition leaders are even labeling it a “hate crime”. Just for some context, the state of Uttar Pradesh has been under the rule of the Hindu-centric Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) since 2017.
Rahul Gandhi, a Member of Parliament from the opposition Congress party in India, expressed his thoughts about the BJP contributing to religious tensions felt all over the country. His views were aired on a social media platform called X, which was earlier known as Twitter.
Gandhi used strong words in his message. He blamed the BJP for sowing seeds of discrimination into the minds of young innocent kids. He also said how such actions have changed even sacred places like schools into a hub of hatred.
Gandhi went as far as to compare their actions to pouring kerosene which, according to him, has set each region of India ablaze with tensions.
On the other hand, during his visit to the US back in June, India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to journalists and stated his view that India has “absolutely no space for discrimination”.
