Tennessee Whiskey is a country classic penned by Dean Dillon and Linda Hargrove. The song first found a home on the album of the same name by American country star, David Allan Coe. Coe’s rendition hit the 77th spot on Billboard’s Hot Country Singles chart back in 1981.

The song gained even more recognition when George Jones did a cover in 1983 for his album Shine On. Jones’ version climbed to the number two spot on the Hot Country Singles chart.

Many artists have covered Tennessee Whiskey over the years, but it was Chris Stapleton’s standout rendition at the Country Music Association (CMA) Awards that truly brought the song into the spotlight. His electrifying duet with Justin Timberlake catapulted the song to newfound fame. This version was so popular, it received Diamond certification from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). Quite an accomplishment for a country classic!
